Balance Lab Introductory Series

Pre-Certification Program for Professionals

online1

Objectives for Pilates Study

The course is designed to introduce the methodology developed by Joseph H. Pilates to those who are interested in pursuing a teaching career in the method or furthering their education. The concepts and exercise series taught in this course will help the student decide whether to further their study in the Balance Lab Teacher Training Concentration Program. This does not mean one can or cannot teach the concepts and exercises learned in this series, but that this course is designed as a concentrated exposure of the method as opposed to a Teacher Training Program. This course teaches an “exercise program” while the Teacher Training Program focuses on anatomy education and trainer teaching skills related to that particular program.

Participants entering into Balance Lab Introductory Series should have a general understanding of functional anatomy. During the series, some anatomy lecture is applied, but mostly as movement concepts. It is through the Balance Lab Teacher Training Concentration Program that anatomy is taught as a separate part of study and integrated into all movement concepts and exercises.

The student acknowledges the he/she has sufficient mental and physical health to participate in this strenuous program. The student participates in this series at his/her own risk and agrees to release Balance from all liability.

About The Series

The 40 hour course meets on designated weekends or designated weeknights for an equivalent of 4 hours for ten weeks. An additional 3 hours of independent workout is required weekly to fulfill course expectations. (Individual sessions can be purchased from instructors at Balance and will count towards the students independent study requirement).

Upon completion of the Balance Lab Introductory Series an exam and a mat practical will be administered. This exam is based on the exercises and movement concepts taught throughout the series. All exams must be taken on the designated test date and all documentation of practice will be due that day.

In most cases, the completion of this course and a passing exam score insures placement in the Balance Lab Teacher Training Concentration Program, but this enrollment must be passed by the Balance Lab Teacher training staff.
